UMass Residential Life Digital Media Position
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Digital Media Designer is responsible for developing, designing, and maintaining creative web and digital media solutions to support Student Affairs and Campus Life (SACL) through effective concept development, content gathering, layout, illustration, production, and programming. This position works collaboratively with University Relations staff to ensure solutions meet client and University needs, align with approved branding strategies, and comply with University polices and standards. This position reports the Director of Student Affairs Technology Services (SATS) and performs work in a collaborative environment.
DETAILED STATEMENT OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Web Site Design, Development and Maintenance:
Design and develop websites. Work directly with department and agency staff on web page design, organization, content and implementation, and to ensure adherence to applicable university
standards and requirements.
Digital and Print Media:
Conceptualize, design, develop and coordinate print and digital solutions that enhance programs and services, the educational process, marketing, and public relations activities of SACL. Consult with staff to assess communication needs, including purpose, design approach, delivery options, production schedule and deadlines. Develop and coordinate design, branding and graphics for web, print and digital applications. Work with staff to ensure consistent presentation of message and visual identity and uniformity between printed pieces, websites and digital messages. Work with staff to update and edit text, monitor project progress to ensure timely completion. Serve as liaison between staff, printers/publishers and web developers for related functions and projects.
Design graphics to support SACL programs and events, online applications and department presentations. Maintain centralized file management system of original artwork, photos and other digital records of projects.
Develop, promote and maintain collaborative, customer-focused, organizational, campus and community relationships.

Demonstrated experience with Web and digital media design, development, implementation, support and maintenance.
Skills and Demonstrated expertise in digital content, usability, architecture, development and design. Advanced
experience managing, configuring and programming websites using CMS, preferably Drupal. Experience with HTML.
Advanced skills and experience with graphic design and related software (e.g., Adobe Suite -Photoshop,
Demonstrated understanding of information design concepts as they relate to color, typography and usability in print, electronic and video presentations. Must have experience with copy writing, editing, drawing, photo manipulation, multimedia software, animation software, and copy fitting.
Experience working in a customer-oriented environment. Strong organizational, written, and customer service skills. Must be able to work constructively in a team environment. Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills.
Excellent planning and project management skills across multiple simultaneously developing platforms such as websites, social media, apps, mobile, etc. Demonstrated ability to move multiple projects forward to successful completion and to lead/coordinate the work of others. Ability to work in a challenging deadline driven environment with competing priorities.
Experience working in higher education environment/higher education environment requiring audience awareness, preferred.
Highly self-motivated and directed. Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment. Ability to work well with department staff of diverse populations and excellent understanding of department goals and objectives.
